Therapy for Caregivers

If you are a family caregiver, first off, let me applaud you for taking the time to even read this! Being a caregiver means you have a 24/7 on-call job that requires so much time and energy. When you are caring for a loved one, it can feel all-consuming. It can also make it feel impossible to find the time for processing your feelings about all of it.

Therapy can help with that. And it’s not just about that saying to put on your oxygen mask first before you can help others. The reality of caregivers is that you are juggling a never-ending list of tasks, decisions, problems to solve, and crises to manage. You’re already helping so much, all the time, while your proverbial oxygen mask got left on the ground somewhere.

Therapy is your time to let the shoulders drop, let the tears fall, and learn how to live your life anyways. Some people are caregivers for years and years of their life. It will never be a perfect or painless path, but you can learn to tolerate and process all the emotions you have around it. You can also nurture aspects of yourself that have nothing to do with caregiving (remember them?). We will work together to help you reconnect with your whole self and let you focus, even for short periods of time, on you.
